Can You Change the Colors for Messaging for Android Phones?
By Danielle Fernandez
Some Android phones support color, theme and font modifications to the stock Messaging app. However, if you Android phone is not equipped with this functionality, you can use a third-party text messaging app to easily reformat your Android phone's SMS and MMS so they reflect your personality.
Determining Your Phone's Capabilities
Determine if your phone supports formatting changes to the stock Messages app. Launch the Messaging app. From its main interface -- where you see your full list of conversations -- press the "Menu" button and see if you have a Settings option. If your phone is capable of formatting modifications, you should see various options for bubble style, font or colors within this menu.
Third-Party Solution
If you are not able to make changes natively, launch the Google Play store and install a free third-party app like Go SMS Pro, ChompSMS or HandCent. In addition to changing the colors, fonts and bubble styles of your text messages, these apps support a number of other modifications, including the addition of a personal signature, messaging theme changes and group chat functionality.
Tip
If you opt to use a third-party app, to make the transition easier, it may be helpful to remove the native Messaging app's shortcut from your Home screen and replace it with the new app's shortcut.
