Unlike many email service providers, Comcast Xfinity does not allow you to actually block email addresses. You can accomplish the same thing as blocking by setting up an email filter, however. Note that the sender will not know he or she is blocked from sending emails to you with the email filter method.

Email Filters

Xfinity allows you to set up an email filter to automatically handle incoming email from specific addresses or email that mentions specific keywords. These email filters can be used to sort emails into specified folders, move certain emails into the Spam folder, or to move emails to the Trash folder. One email filter that you can set up is one that automatically permanently deletes the email so that you never see it. This is the type of email filter that you can effectively use in place of a true email address blocking mechanism in Xfinity.

Creating an Email Filter to Block One Email Address

Create an email filter to block a specific email address by opening your Xfinity email inbox and clicking the “Preferences” link. Click the “Email” link and then click “Email Filters” followed by “Add Filter”. Type a name for this filter (such as email block) and then select “If any of the following conditions are met:”. Click the drop-down underneath this text and select “From” and click the other drop-down to select “contains." Type in the email address you want to block in the box next to this.

Click the drop-down below “Perform the following actions:” and select “Discard”. Click the “Save” button to save the filter. Future emails from this email address will be automatically discarded.

Creating an Email Filter to Block Multiple Email Addresses

You can simply repeat the steps in the previous section to block additional email addresses, but you may find it easier to set up one email filter that blocks multiple email addresses instead.

Navigate to the “Preferences” > “Email” section of your Xfinity email inbox and click “Email Filters” followed by “Add Filter”. Type in a name for this filter and then select “IF any of the following conditions are met:”. Select “From” and “contains” for the options and type in the first email address you want to block. Click the “Add” link right underneath this and select “From” and “contains” for the options and type in the second email address that you want to block. Repeat this process to add as many email addresses as you would like.

Click the “Discard” option under “Perform the following actions:” and then click “Save”. All future emails from the added email addresses will be automatically discarded.

Undoing Block

Blocks set up through email filters are not permanent and can be easily reversed. You can undo the block by going back into “Preferences” > “Email” and clicking the “Email filters” link followed by clicking the “Delete” link next to each filter that you want to delete.
