How to Build an Invention Online
By Missy J. Talbot
There are lots of places online where you can build inventions. An invention is something that you design, which serves a purpose. Famous inventions, like the telephone and the computer, have changed the way that the world works. Whether your invention is something small or something large, you can play around with your ideas at several sites online to figure out how to make them better, or even to complete a design idea you can shop around to stores that might want to purchase it.
Click Design My Idea (see Resources). Register for an account by clicking "Get Started." Then, log in to the site and submit an example of your idea. Use the online tools to create pictures or models of what your invention would be, and then submit the idea to the site. If the Design My Idea company likes your idea, it will help you design it for real.
Play Invention Games on Sploder (see Resources). Here you can choose from a variety of games, all of which ask you to create an invention on the site. Once you've chosen the type of invention you would like to create, choose the game that most closely corresponds. Then, click on the game to start it. Begin to play the game, and create the invention as you go.
Play the Lamelson Invention Playhouse by Smithsonian (see Resources). Click the box to play the game. In order to play the game, you must design an invention to move the item from one area to another. As you go, you can create different inventions to move different items, and continue to advance online.
