How to Block Unwanted Web Pages From Popping Up

Advertisers use pop-up windows with the idea that, because the user must physically act to close the window, they will be more likely to view the advertisement without ignoring it. However, many users find pop-ups distracting and bothersome. To help with this problem, modern Web browsers include pop-up blockers. Enable the pop-up blocker in your Web browser to prevent pop-up advertisements from appearing.
Internet Explorer 8
Open the "Tools" menu in Internet Explorer 8.
Click "Pop-up Blocker."
Click "Turn On Pop-up Blocker."
Firefox 3.6
Open the "Tools" menu in Firefox 3.6.
Click "Options."
Click the "Content" tab.
Click "Block pop-up windows."
Click "OK."
Chrome 9
Open the "Customize and Control Google Chrome" menu in Chrome 9.
Click "Options."
Click the "Under the Hood" tab.
Click "Content Settings."
Click "Pop-ups" in the left column under "Features."
Click "Do not allow any site to show pop-ups (recommended)."
Click both "Close" buttons.
