How to Block Numbers From Calling or Texting a Sprint Phone

by Randall Blackburn

Sprint provides a valuable service to mobile customers that enables subscribers to block texts to and from selected numbers. The service also provides the account owner with the ability to completely block the texting service on the device. This feature is particularly useful as a tool for parents to monitor and control their children’s SMS privileges. You can also use the blocking service to stop unwanted phone callers. Both blocking features are available through the My Sprint account management site (see Resources).

Block Texts

1

Log in to your My Sprint account (see Resources) and click the tab labeled “My Preferences.”

2

Click the “Block Texts” option in the Limits and Permissions section. Your devices are listed on the screen.

3

Click on the device to configure for blocking.

4

Click “Block Only These Numbers for Inbound and Outbound Text Messaging” to block specific numbers. Type the first number to block into the input box. Click the “Add Number" button. The entered number is listed as blocked. Repeat entering numbers until all desired numbers are listed. Click “Block All Inbound Text Messages” or “Block All Outbound Messages” to specify either of these options. Click the “Block All Text Messages Inbound and Outbound” to completely disable the SMS service.

5

Click the “Save” button to save your changes.

6

Power your phone off, and then back on. The changes take effect when the phone boots back up.

Tips

  • You can block domain names and shortcodes in the My Sprint text block settings. Just enter the code or domain name instead of a phone number in the input field in the Block Texts screen.
  • Dial “*2“ on your Sprint phone to reach customer service if you need assistance blocking numbers on your device.
