How to Get Back My MSN Hotmail Site

by Dave Wilson

Hotmail can be a convenient way to manage email. It's a free service, accessible via the Internet from any Internet-enabled computer. However, if you forget your password and the answer to your secret question to retrieve it, or if the account has been compromised, Hotmail does not offer a way to reset the account so that you can regain access. Hotmail does provide a couple methods that can be used to validate your ownership of the account and regain access.

Connect to the Microsoft Windows Live "Reset your password" web site using a web browser such as Internet Explorer. Identify the "Reset your password" radio button, and then click the "Reset your password" link.

Type your Hotmail email address into the "Windows Live ID" box, and then type the characters displayed in the "Picture" box into the "Characters" box, and then click the "Next" button.

Check the box with the alternate email address that is registered with your Hotmail account for a password reset link that has been emailed to the alternate account by Hotmail. Click on the link to reset your password and create a new password in order to access your Hotmail site. If you no longer have access to the alternate email address, proceed to the next step.

Connect to the Windows Live ID Validation web site using a web browser such as Internet Explorer. Click the "Continue" button at the bottom of the page.

Read the instructions to familiarize yourself with the ID validation process. Click the "Continue" button at the bottom of the page.

Type the email address of an email account to which you currently have access in the "Contact Email Address" field, and then click the "Continue" button.

Type the email address of the Hotmail account you're trying to access into the "Windows Live ID Account" field, then click the "Continue" button.

Answer the validation questions by typing the answer to each question in the fields provided. Click the "Continue" button. A link to a private forum will be sent to the "Contact Email" address you provided earlier. Click on the link to access the private forum. Check the private forum daily to view status and answer questions posed by the Hotmail support team. Your Hotmail account will be reset within a few days so that you can access your email and account site.
