Whether you are creating PowerPoint presentations for business or personal use, adding effects can help boost interest in your presentation and make it more memorable to the audience. For a festive theme, try adding snow. With the help of PowerPoint's autoshapes and animations tool, this is a useful process you can also apply to other shapes and animations later if needed.

Step 1

Open the PowerPoint presentation. Click on "Format" then "Background." Click on the drop-down menu to choose the background color and select back or the darkest color you can find on the swatch. Confirm your selection by clicking "Apply."

Step 2

Click on the "Insert" tab, select "Shapes" and choose the oval autoshape. Hold down the shift key and click anywhere on the background to create a small circle, which will be the first snowflake. Double click on the circle and, in the dialogue box, select "Fill" on the left-hand side and click on "Gradient Fill."

Step 3

Select white under "Color" and, under the "Direction" drop-down box, set the color to be brightest at the center, fading towards the edges. Click on "Line Color," next in the left-hand side menu, and select "No Line." Click "OK" and you will see your first snowflake on the presentation background.

Step 4

Using the CTRL+C copy and CTRL+V paste shortcuts, create as many snowflakes as you want across the top of your presentation. They do not have to be in a horizontal line but try to distribute them evenly.

Step 5

Click on the "Animations" tab, select "Advanced animations and find the "Exit" subheading. Select "Fly Out." Using the "Timing" section, select when you want the snow effect to start and how long you want it to last.

Step 6

Click on the "Animation Painter" button with the "Fly Out" and "Timing" settings selected. Use the painter to select the snowflakes you have created. This will apply the same animation rules to all of them. Your snow animation is now ready to use with your PowerPoint presentation.
