How to Amplify Your Computer Mic

Microphone Boost (Mic Boost) is a feature in Windows that amplifies the microphone recordings. Some computers have the Mic Boost feature disabled by default. Enable the Mic Boost feature by accessing the volume controls. You can do this in Windows XP, Vista and Seven.

Windows Vista and Seven

Step 1

Click the “Start” button and access the Control Panel.

Step 2

Click the “Sound” icon.

Step 3

Go to the “Recordings” tab, select “Microphone” and click “Properties.”

Go to the “Custom” tab and enable “Mic Boost.”

Windows XP

Step 1

Go to the lower-right corner of the screen and open the Volume Control application.

Step 2

Go to “Options” and select “Properties.”

Step 3

Scroll down and select “Mic Volume” and click “OK.” This will take you back to the main screen of the Volume Control application.

Step 4

Go to “Options” and select “Advanced Controls.”

Go to the Bottom of the Window and click “Advanced.” Enable “Microphone Boost” and click “Close.”
