Adjusting Screen Borders on a Vizio Screen
By Adrian Grahams
Black borders may appear at the sides, top or bottom of your Vizio TV set when you're viewing a movie or TV show produced with an aspect ratio that doesn't match the shape of the TV's widescreen display. Viewing old 4:3 aspect ratio TV shows on your widescreen Vizio set will result in black borders on either side of the screen, while viewing some panoramically-filmed movies might generate thin black borders at the top and bottom of the screen. The borders indicate that you're Vizio TV set is operating in "Normal" mode with the video displayed in its original and correct aspect ratio. If you find the screen borders distracting, you can adjust them with the Vizio TV set's aspect ratio controls.
Press the "Menu" button on the Vizio TV set's remote control.
Scroll to the "Wide" button in the on-screen menu with the remote control's directional arrow buttons and then press the "OK" button.
Highlight your preferred screen mode with the arrow buttons.
Select "Wide" to remove side borders by stretching a 4:3 aspect ratio display to the screen edges. Press the "OK" button to implement the screen setting.
Select "Zoom" to remove all borders automatically so that the video fits the screen. Press the "OK" button.
Select "Panoramic" to expand the video to fill the entire screen and then press "OK." The panoramic setting appears only if your Vizio TV set is displaying standard-definition video. If the standard-definition content is in widescreen, you will still see black borders at the top and bottom of the screen after implementing this setting.
Select "Stretch" to expand the image to each side of the screen and then press "OK." This option is available only when the TV set is displaying high-definition video. If the high-definition content is in widescreen, you will still see black borders at the top and bottom of the screen.
Press the "Exit" button to exit the on-screen menu.
Tips
Experiment with the Vizio TV set's screen controls until you achieve your preferred display with the right balance between screen borders and aspect ratio.
