Facebook status pages with linked words are portals for navigating to your favorite Web content. For example, if you've been reading a blog and clicking the like button on posts you've enjoyed, you can use your status page as a collection of bookmarks to those posts. Facebook has two main ways for creating linked words in status posts: explicitly and implicitly. Create links explicitly by either tagging something, or inserting a URL into a post. Create links implicitly by liking something on the Web, or by creating a note on Facebook.

Adding Tags

Step 1

Log on to your Facebook account, which opens automatically onto your status page. By default, the text cursor is inside a window for creating status posts.

Step 2

Press the "@" key, and then start typing the name of a friend, app, page, or other item with a Facebook page. A list of items appears. Click the item you want to create a link to, and then click the "Post" button. The post displays a link for the item you clicked.

Step 3

Type another status post, and then click either the person-shaped icon or the inverted tear-shaped icon on the post window's border. Start typing the name of a friend if you clicked the person-shaped icon, or a location name if you clicked the tear icon. Facebook displays a list of items to link to. Click an item, and then click "Post" to create a post that links to the item.

Add Links to Published Posts

Step 1

Click the camera icon on the post window's border, and then select a photo on your hard drive. Facebook inserts a thumbnail image of the uploaded photo in the post window.

Step 2

Click "Post" to publish the post, and then click the photo in the post. Facebook displays a large version of the photo, along with controls for tagging it.

Step 3

Click the "Tag" button, and then click anywhere on the photo. Enter the name of anything with a Facebook page, such as a friend's name. Click the "Done" button, and then click the window's "X" button to close the window. Facebook returns you to the published post, which shows a link to the item you tagged.

Post a URL

Step 1

Open your Facebook status page.

Step 2

Type or paste a URL into the post window.

Step 3

Click "Post" to view the published post, which displays the URL you entered as a link that you can click to navigate to the URL.

Creating Notes and Liking

Step 1

Open a Web browser tab on any Web page that has a Facebook like button. Click this button, and then open your status page to view a post with a link to the page you came from.

Step 2

Enter "Notes" in the search engine box on Facebook's header graphic. Click the "Notes" item that appears to open the Notes app, and then click the "Write a Note" button. Enter text in the Title and Body fields, and then click the "Publish" button.

Step 3

Click the "Home" link to return to your status page, which shows a new post. The post's body contains a portion of the content you typed into the note's body. The post's title displays a hyperlink to the actual note.
