Chipboard is a fiber product recycled from cartons, newspapers and other types of paper. The uses of this relatively light but sturdy material include support for notepads. The thickness of the chipboard, measured in "points," adds to the product's stiffness. These points correspond to one-thousandths of an inch per point, so conversion to inches is a remarkable easy calculation.

Look up the point value of the chipboard, usually listed prominently along with the length and width dimensions. As an example, you may see chipboard listed as 8.5 inches by 11 inches with a 24 point weight.

Divide the point value by 1,000 to convert to inches. In the example, 24 points corresponds to 0.024 inches.

Multiply the inch measurement by 25.4 to convert to millimeters. In the example, 0.024 inches corresponds to 0.61 mm.
