How to Troubleshoot a Star TSP100

The TSP 100 is a direct thermal point-of-sale printer manufactured by Star Micronics that provides bar code enhancement and receipt preview functions. Users can create customized receipts with logo and coupon insertions, and all settings can be stored on a PC. It requires no hardware configuration and can operate with a vertical or wall-mounted setting. Troubleshooting the unit is fairly simple and most error codes can be fixed by following a few short steps.

Clearing a Paper Jam

Power off the printer.

Open the printer cover using the cover lever.

Gently pull on the paper that is jammed inside the printer until it is completely removed from the unit.

Straighten the roll of paper and close the printer cover.

Power on the printer and resume printing functions.

Locked Cutter

Power off the printer.

Detach the cover that is located on the front of the printer, making the auto cutter visible.

Gently pull on the paper that is jammed inside the printer, completely removing it from the unit.

Reinstall the paper roll and replace the cover back on the unit.

Power on the printer and resume printing functions.

Out of Paper

Power off the printer.

Open the printer cover using the lever.

Gently drop a new roll of paper into the designated area, taking notice of the placement of the paper roll. Guide the end of the paper toward the front of the unit.

Close the printer cover and power on the printer. The cutter will resume functioning and the unit is ready for printing.

Paper Cut Error

Power off the printer.

Gently pull on the paper that is jammed inside the printer until it is completely removed from the unit.

Place the paper cutter in the home position.

Power on the printer and resume printing functions.

Tip

  • The power source should be unplugged prior to attaching or detaching the AC adapter so as to avoid electrical shock or damage to the printer or any of its connected devices. If the cover is not properly secured, the unit will not function properly.
