Pranksters and others sometimes use pay phones as a seemingly foolproof way to harass people without getting caught. The people they are calling won't be able to track the phone, they think. However, it is possible to find out the exact location of a pay phone using pay phone tracking services. You can also find the location of pay phones in a city online if you are just looking for a pay phone in town to use.

Record the phone number. When a call from what you believe to be a pay phone comes in on your cell phone or land line phone, use caller ID to identify the phone number. Write the number down in a place you will be able to find it later.

Contact a company that traces pay phone locations such as PublicPeopleFinder.com, and give it the phone number you wrote down. You will pay $88 to find the address with PublicPeopleFinder.com to find the address or specific location of a pay phone. If there is not an address, the PublicPeopleFinder.com will tell you the corner the phone is on. The results take 1-3 days, and the information is e-mailed to you.

Look the phone number up online at the Payphone Project, a database that has about 500,000 numbers of pay phones nationwide. This service is free, and it provides the address of the pay phone number. Input the pay phone's number to find out its address. You can also search for pay phones by city. The database will tell you the addresses of each pay phone it has in its database, as well as the phone number.
