In the United States, the standard letter-sized paper is 8.5 by 11 inches. However, in Europe, a standard, letter-sized paper often is 8.3 by 11.7, reports PC Magazine's Encyclopedia. This paper size also is referred to as "A4." If you want to punch four holes in A4 paper to fit a four-ring, international-size binder, you should use a four-hole punch machine.
Purchase a four-hole punch from an office supply store. Some four-hole punch machines are standard two-punch systems that can be converted to a four-punch system.
Place the paper in the punch machine. Take one sheet of A4 paper and place the right side into the hole punch. You will notice that the four "punch" tools are above where the right side rests.
Using the palm of one hand, push down on the lever. Firmly press and then release. When you press down on the lever, the "punch" tools will descend and cut holes into the right side of the paper.
Items you will need
1 sheet of A4 paper
1 four-hole punch (or two-hole punch that has the capacity to punch four holes)
