How to program a Honda keyless entry remote

by eHow Contributor ; Updated September 28, 2017

Items you will need

  • A Honda vehicle with keyless entry

  • a key to the vehicle

  • ALL keyless remotes to be programmed for the vehicle (you have to program them all together)

  • a non-programmed remote will work for this process

Did you buy a keyless remote entry fob for your Honda and need to program it? Did your battery die on your old remote and you need to reset it? No problem. It's easy to reprogram, and you don't have to take it to the dealer or pay a dime to buy instructions online. The steps are repetitive, but I broke it down into small, individual steps instead of saying "repeat this process 3 times." So it's repetitive, but easy.

Unlock the doors.

...

Turn the ignition key to the "ON" (II) position. (This is the position where the key sits while you're driving. The accessories should come on and the dashboard will light-up.)

...

Press the "LOCK" or "UNLOCK" button on the remote control transmitter.

...

Turn the ignition key to the "OFF" (0 or I) position.

...

Turn the ignition key to the "ON" (II) position.

...

Press the "LOCK" or "UNLOCK" button on the remote control transmitter.

Turn the ignition key to the "OFF" (0 or I) position.

...

Turn the ignition key to the "ON" (II) position.

...

Press the "LOCK" or "UNLOCK" button on the remote control transmitter. • The power door locks cycle to indicate programming mode. • To terminate the programming mode at this point, either turn the ignition key to the "OFF" position or leave the remote's button untouched for over 10 seconds. • To program, continue to step 13.

...

Press the "LOCK" button of each remote (one at a time) to be stored in memory. • The power door locks cycle to confirm each entry. • A button on EACH remote control transmitter to be programmed MUST be pressed. Perform this programming step within 10 seconds for each remote or else the programming mode will terminate and some remotes may not be programmed.

Note: Only 3 remotes can be stored in the system's memory.

...

Turn the ignition key to the "OFF" position and remove the key to complete the programming procedure. Test all of your remotes to ensure they work. NOTE: remote buttons will not work if key is in ignition.

Tip

  • Note: Only 3 remotes can be stored in the system's memory. Remember to have ALL remotes that you want to program on hand. You need to program them all at the same time. For steps 2 through 12, each step must be completed within 5 seconds. For step 13, step must be performed for each remote within 10 seconds. A non programmed remote will work for this procedure.
