How to Delete AOL & Save Favorites
By Aaron Charles
All of those websites you put in the AOL Favorites "cloud" could represent a large part of your business's personality and activity on the Web. So keeping all of that info in spite of wanting to delete your free AOL account is a wise move -- although you might find the process a bit tedious. As of August 2013, the most direct way AOL provides for you to save your AOL Favorites is by accessing your AOL Favorites profile and copying and pasting your favorites elsewhere, one at a time. After you've done that, though, deleting AOL is a much quicker process.
Access your AOL Favorites listing. Hover your cursor over the first listing and click on the pencil (edit) icon.
Highlight the website URL and copy it by pressing "Ctrl-C."
Press "Ctrl-V" to paste the copied URL into a text document or your Web browser's "Bookmarks" or "Favorites" menu.
Repeat this process for each favorite. Save the changes.
Visit the AOL home page and sign in to your account.
Click "Options" and then select "Account Info" from the drop-down menu. Enter the answer to your security question if AOL prompts you for it, and click "OK."
Click "Manage My Subscriptions and Other Account Details," and answer your security question again if AOL asks for it.
Click "Manage My Subscriptions" on the following page and then click "Cancel" on the next page. Select a reason for your cancellation from the drop-down list and then click "Cancel AOL."
