What Are Compatible Printers for My Toshiba Laptop L505D-S5983?
By Steve Lander
The Toshiba Satellite L505D-S5983 notebook computer comes with an AMD dual-core processor and the Windows 7 Home Premium 32-bit operating system. Its features include the ability to connect printers in three different ways. You can use the laptop with USB printers, wired Ethernet printers and wireless printers, although it will not connect to a printer over Bluetooth because it lacks support for that technology.
Single User USB Printers
Toshiba builds the Satellite L505D-S5983 with three USB 2.0 compliant ports, and you can connect printers to any or all of them. Using USB to connect a printer or all-in-one device is convenient if you are not sharing the printer. If multiple users need to print to it, though, you will need to turn on printer sharing within your Satellite's Windows operating system and leave it connected at all times.
Wired Networked Printers
Although the Satellite L505D-S5983 doesn't support gigabit Ethernet connections, its support for 10- or 100-megabit connections is more than fast enough for most printing applications. If you have access to a wired network connection, the computer can work with just about any networked printer. This is also an excellent way to share a printer with multiple computers. as your network takes care of the nuts and bolts of sharing it.
Wireless Networked Printers
A wireless printer has all of the benefits of the wired networked printer plus one: you don't need a wire. Given that the Satellite L505D-S5983 is a portable computer, it makes sense to be able to print from where ever you are working as long as you are on the same wireless network. While the computer doesn't support fast Wireless-N or Wireless-AC connections, its Wireless-B/G radio should be fast enough for printing.
Printer Driver Notes
Ultimately, the main constraint on your ability to use the Toshiba Satellite L505D-S5983 with printers will be support for operating systems. The computer shipped with a 32-bit version of Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium, but the current version of Windows is 64-bit Windows 8 as of early 2013. If you do not upgrade the operating system on your Satellite L505D-S5983, you will not be able to use it with newer printers that do not have drivers for older systems.
