How to Make a Comment Box for a Tumblr Blog

by Tammy Columbo

Many Tumblr users may not be aware that you can enable a comment box for a Tumblr blog. Tumblr does not associate the feature with comments, however, so the feature goes unnoticed by those seeking to integrate a way to communicate with their followers and visitors into their blogs. The Tumblr “Ask” feature generates a page on your blog that provides a comment box for your visitors and followers to comment on and ask questions about the blog. You can configure the Ask page to accept anonymous submissions or comments only from users logged in to the platform.

Log in to your Tumblr dashboard, then click the gear icon in the top toolbar to open the Account Settings interface.

Click the name of the blog to edit in the left navigation bar. The Settings page opens for the selected blog.

Scroll to the Ask section, then click “Let People Ask Questions.” Type a title for the new page in the Ask Page title box.

Click “Allow Anonymous Questions” to allow visitors to submit questions anonymously.

Click the “Save” button to generate the Ask page. When the Ask page is generated, a page named “Ask” is appended to your Tumblr URL (i.e. YourBlog.Tumblr.com/Ask).

Tip

  • Enable anonymous messaging with care. You cannot track Tumblr anonymous Ask submissions if a user sends obscene, abusive or spam messages.
