Is There a Daily Unfollow Limit on Twitter?
By Kristie Sweet
Hundreds of millions of messages, or tweets, are sent via Twitter every day. Users may choose to follow and unfollow other users to stay up-to-date on the latest happenings with celebrities, organizations and other individuals. Such activity makes use of the Twitter network, and excessive activity may lead to errors and Twitter downtime. Therefore, Twitter limits users to following or unfollowing 1,000 times each day.
Twitter Limits
Twitter users may not consistently follow and then drop extensive numbers of other users, a practice termed aggressive following or aggressive follow churn. Such tactics run against Twitter's terms of use and are often employed by spammers, so Twitter limits such actions. Although only the term "following" is used on Twitter's Help center -- not "unfollowing" -- the rules apply to both. If you receive an error message that you have reached your limit, you will need to wait until the next day to unfollow more. Continuously following or unfollowing large numbers, even if this 1,000 per day limit is not reached, may flag your account for spam.
