How to Install Wii Updates Without an Internet Connection

Nintendo's periodic Wii updates often improve the gaming console's performance and enhance certain game features. While the firmware updates are usually distributed online, you can still install the updates without an Internet connection from certain Nintendo game discs. However, the disc updates are available only for the classic Wii console. Nintendo requires an Internet connection for Wii U updates.
Obtain one of the newly released Wii games developed by Nintendo. Generally the latest updates will be on Nintendo's top-selling titles, such as the newest game in the Mario series. As of June 2013, the latest 4.3 firmware update is included on "Super Mario Galaxy 2," " Lego Harry Potter: Years 1-4," " Metroid: Other M" and "Call of Duty: Black Ops."
Check the label on the game box to make sure it's a North American release. The label should contain the words "Nintendo of America." If you have a game released for another country or continent, the firmware update won't work with your console and could even end up bricking your system.
Insert the game disc into your console and then select "Yes" when the system asks if you want to update your firmware. Restart your console once the update is complete.
