Pixlr is a free website that allows you to create and edit picture files. Using Flash, Pixlr replicates the interface of standard graphics editing applications and offers similar functionalities such as, for example, the ability to add a drop shadow effect to elements. You can add a drop shadow effect to a picture in Pixlr by following a specific procedure.

New Picture

Open your Internet browser and visit Pixlr.com. Click on "Pixlr Editor."

Click on "Create a new image," select its dimensions and choose "OK."

Right-click on the "Background" layer in the Layers pane and select "Duplicate layer."

Select the layer you just created by clicking on it. Use the editing tools in the Tools window to create the element you wish to add a drop shadow effect to. For example, use the Text tool to insert text or the Pencil tool to draw outlines.

Open the "Layer" menu at the top of the window and select "Layer styles." Click on the checkbox next to "Drop Shadow" and confirm your selection by clicking on "OK."

Existing Picture

Launch your Internet browser and visit Pixlr.com. Select "Pixlr Editor."

Click on "Open image from computer" to select a picture file on your hard drive. Alternatively, you can also import a picture from a website.

Right-click on the "Background" layer in the Layers pane.

Click on the new layer and use the website's tools to select the elements you wish to add a drop shadow effect to. For example, use the Wand tool to select areas filled with the same color or the Marquee tool to select rectangular elements.

Click on "Layer" at the top of the window and select "Layer styles." Activate the checkbox next to "Drop shadow" and click on "OK."
