Since its release in October 2013, "NBA 2K14" fans have had numerous problems with connecting to the NBA 2K server, which is required for playing online and even being able to save your offline single player game. To make sure you are able to connect when the 2K servers are online, follow the steps below.

Boot Up Your Console

"NBA 2K14" is available for PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360 and Xbox One. Whichever version you have, boot up your console and allow it to load before moving on to the next step.

Set Up or Check Your Internet Connection.

If your Internet connection is configured correctly on your console, your console should connect automatically. If it isn't, you need to troubleshoot it. For the Xbox 360 or Xbox One, you will need to go to the Networks Settings screen of your main menu. Select "Set up wireless network" if you are not already connected to the Internet, then select your Internet access point and follow the screens that come next. You can select "Test network connection" from the third column of your menu if you have already entered your Internet settings and want to make sure it is connecting properly.

On a PlayStation 3 or PlayStation 4, go to the Settings menu, then select "Network." Choose "Set Up Internet Connection," then select either "Use a LAN Cable" for a wired connection or "Use Wi-Fi" for a wireless connection and go through the screens that follow. Select the Easy option to have the standard settings chosen for you.

Load Your Copy of NBA 2K14

If you have a physical copy of "NBA 2K14," insert the disc into your console. If you purchased "NBA 2K14" via digital download, open the game and allow it to load. Once loading, "NBA 2K14" will automatically attempt to connect to 2K's sports server. Give it a few minutes to connect as it can be slow if a lot of people are attempting to connect. You will know it has connected properly if it no longer says “Checking for Internet connection” at the bottom of the game’s main menu.

If You Still Cannot Connect to the 2K Server

Many "NBA 2K14" players have reported issues connecting to the 2K server, which stores save files and rosters, making it impossible to play even single-player mode. If you are experiencing this, you are not alone. Luckily, there are temporary solutions to help you play your game right away. See the Resources section for some suggestions. One of the temporary solutions involves creating a new PlayStation Network or Xbox Live account. Unfortunately, this will not transfer your data from your previous account, but it should allow you to connect to the server and have full access to your "NBA 2K14" game until the main servers are properly fixed.
