How to Exit a Game on Steam

The Steam network is a digital distribution network that allows game publishers to deliver games digitally to gamers. Purchasing games through the Steam network eliminates the need for physical storage devices, such as CDs and DVDs to install games. To play games purchased on Steam, the game owner must be logged in to her Steam account. Exiting a game that was purchased through the Steam network can be done by navigating the in-game menus.
Press the escape on your keyboard while playing the game. This will typically bring up the game's main menu.
Click on "Exit Game," "Exit to Desktop," or "Close Game."
Confirm that you want to close the game.
Right click the "Steam" icon located in your system tray, then click on "Exit Steam."
Confirm that you want to close Steam. This will close the Steam network.
