Steam is a downloadable gaming platform that allows you to access, play and chat about all your favorite games. With over 300,000 users, Steam is an increasingly popular way to experience online gaming. Each time you log in to Steam, you must provide your username and password. While forgetting your username can be inconvenient, it is simple to retrieve it.

Make Sure Steam is Installed

Signing up for Steam is a two step process. After creating a new account on their website, you must download the Steam interface. If you have created an account, but not downloaded Steam, you will not be able to retrieve your username. Double check to make sure that you have downloaded Steam. If you have not, you will need to do so before you can retrieve your username.

Go to the Login Page

Open Steam and go to the login page. Click the "Retrieve a lost account" button. You will see an option that says, "I don't know my account's name." Select this and click "Next." You will be asked to enter the email address associated with the account. Enter it and within a few minutes, your account name will be sent to your inbox.

Go to Your Email

After requesting your username, go the email associated with your Steam account. You should have an email from the company that tells you your username. You will also be given a verification code and secret question.

Reset the Account

Reopen Steam and go to the login page. Click the "Retrieve a lost account" button. Select the "I know my account name" option and click "Next." You will be asked to enter your account name, select the email associated with the account, enter the verification code and answer the secret question. After this, you will be asked to enter a new password. Once this is complete, you can get back to gaming.
