How to Stream Netflix Silverlight in Windows 7

by Chris Miksen ; Updated September 22, 2017

When you sign up for a Netflix account, you have the opportunity to watch movies instantly through your Internet browser. Before the movies will play, you must install the Microsoft Silverlight plug-in. Fortunately, you can install the plug-in by visiting Netflix and starting your movie, so the movie will automatically begin after the plug-in is installed. You only need to install the Silverlight plug-in once.

Sign in to your Netflix account.

Click the “Watch Instantly” button at the top left of the screen. Scroll through top movies or click “See all” next to a specific category. When you find the movie you want to watch, click “Play” under the movie. A new screen will appear asking you to install the Microsoft Silverlight plug-in.

Click the blue “Install Now” button. If you’re asked to save or open the file, click “Open” and the installer will automatically appear once the file has been downloaded. Otherwise, launch the file manually. You may have to click “Yes” if a Windows dialog box appears and asks if it’s okay for this program to make changes to your computer.

Click “Install Now” when the Microsoft Silverlight splash screen appears. Once the installation screen informs you the program has successfully installed, click “Close.” Your Netflix movie will automatically begin playing in your browser.
