How to Test the Speed on an Xbox 360

Your current wireless or wired computer network is what is used to gauge your Xbox 360 speed. Your Xbox 360, however, does have the option for you to check that it's properly connected to your network connection. You may also need to conduct a ping test as latency issues can also interfere with the speed of your Xbox games.

Access a connection speed test website. Speed test websites download and upload a small file and determine your Internet speed based on how long the transfers took. and are examples of speed test websites.

Cross-reference the results of your speed test with the package speed you are paying for. For example, if you are paying for a 6 Mbps high-speed service, the speed test should come back with an average of 6 Mpbs result. Anything significantly lower than the Internet plan you are paying for should require a call to your Internet service provider's technical support department.

Conduct a ping test. and test your Internet speed as well as your ping speed. A ping test gauges the number of packets of data that reach your location from a server within a timeframe without data being dropped (packets), which can cause latency issues. will grade your Internet speed and packet loss with a grade A through F. Failure grades indicate you should contact your Internet technical support department.

Press the Xbox button (illuminates green) in the center of your controller. A pop-up will appear. Scroll to the right and select "Settings." Navigate to "Network settings" and click the green "A" button. Select whether you are on a wireless or wired network and press the green "A" button.

Scroll down to "Test Xbox live connection" and accept the warning that you will be signed out. The Xbox connection test verifies that your network, Internet and Xbox are all connected and functioning.
