The Roku digital video player is a set-top box that can stream movies, TV shows and other content to your TV over an Internet connection. While the Roku does not have a Web browser that can connect to the Hulu website, it can stream content from Hulu when you install the Hulu Plus channel.

Hulu Plus

The Hulu Plus channel will install on the Roku even if you're not a subscriber to Hulu Plus. Without a subscription, you can browse some sample TV clips, TV shows and movies. The Hulu Plus service consists mostly of back episodes of popular TV series, such as "Family Guy," "Glee," "The Office," "Saturday Night Live," "Gray's Anatomy" and "30 Rock." There are also many full-length movies available through the service. When you subscribe, you can also access Hulu Plus from your computer or mobile device.

Hulu Plus will stream on any one of the Roku's three models. The Roku HD supports a maximum of 720p resolution, so you can use it to watch Hulu Plus in HD. You'll need a Roku XD or XDS if you want to use Wireless N to stream your content. You must have the XDS to use dual band wireless or to connect the Roku to your TV by component video. You'll also need a high-speed Internet connection of at least 480 Kbps to watch Hulu Plus in standard definition and 1.5 Mbps for high definition.

If you sign up for a Hulu Plus subscription, you may qualify for a discount on a new Roku digital video player. If you already have a Roku player, you can use the referral code from the Roku's Hulu Plus channel to get a free trial membership, which usually lasts for one week or one month. The monthly membership price allows unlimited access to the TV shows and movies in Hulu's library.

To install the Hulu Plus channel on the Roku, navigate to the Roku Channel Store with your remote. Select "Hulu Plus" from the Movies & TV channel list, then select "Add Channel." Then, exit the Channel Store to add the channel to your Roku home screen. The channel should appear within 24 hours. Once you've signed up for your membership, and installed the Hulu Plus channel, you must activate the channel. You can log into your Hulu Plus account on the Roku using your username and password. Alternatively, you can use an on-screen code from the Hulu Plus channel to activate your Roku on your computer.
