How to Register My Visa Gift Card

by Kaydence Small ; Updated September 28, 2017

Visa gift cards contain a specified amount of money and will work anywhere that normal Visa cards are accepted. Visa offers gift cards through 23 of the largest U.S. banks, so being given one is not uncommon. Once you have a Visa gift card, there are a few simple steps for activating it so you can use it.

Call the number on the back of the card. Sometimes Visa gift cards come automatically activated. When this is the case, the user can begin spending without doing anything. However, some cards need to be activated. These gift cards come with a sticker providing a phone number to call. Call the number.

Enter the card number and any other required information. The recorded voice on the other end will guide you through the process. The voice will normally ask for the card number and ask for a custom personal identification number, or PIN, which will be required to access the account and get your balance in the future. This number can be anything; just make sure you'll remember it.

Call the gift card issuer and register the card, if you are informed that additional registration is required. To make any online or phone purchases, the name and address for the card needs to match the billing information. Call the bank that issued the card. Explain to the bank that the card needs to be registered with the correct name and address, then provide the appropriate information. Once this is done, online purchases will go smoothly. You are now read to make purchases with your card.
