"Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare" for Windows is a first-person shooter game that takes place in the year 2011 during a number of international conflicts. The game supports Local Area Network (LAN) play for its multiplayer combat modes. This means you can play the game's multiplayer missions with people sitting in close proximity to you with very little connection lag over Windows-enabled computers.
Open the Start menu.
Type "Call of Duty 4," and select it from the results list.
Wait for the game to load, and click "Options."
Click "Multiplayer Options," and set "Punkbuster" to "No." This causes slowdown and connection lag in online games in an attempt to prevent cheating. In a LAN game, where the other players are in the same room or building as you, this precaution is more of a hindrance.
Click "Back," and click "Start New Server."
Enter a new name for your server, and select a map from the list on the lower-right corner of the screen.
Click "Game Settings," and select "LAN Only" from the drop-down Game Type list.
Click "Start" on the lower-right of the screen to launch your LAN server.
