How to Get a JVC Camcorder out of Safeguard Mode

JVC is an electronics manufacturer. Among the many things they make are digital camcorders that record to DV tape. These camcorders have a built-in maintenance warning known as Safeguard Mode. The camera will say “Unit is in Safeguard Mode” and display an error code. To clear the error, you will either have to take out the battery or the DV tape.

Remove the battery from the camera and unplug the power adapter if it is plugged in if the camera displays “E01,” “E02” or “E06” as the error code. After a few minutes, the safeguard warning will disappear. Plug the battery back in and resume normal operation.

Eject the DV tape from the tape bay if the camera displays “E03” or “E04” as the error code. After a few minutes, re-insert the tape to see if it clears the error.

Consult your nearest JVC dealer if you have tried the above solutions several times and they have not worked. There may be a more serious internal problem with the camcorder and it will need to be repaired.
