All Rogers Wireless phones require special unlock codes to remove the SIM card usage restrictions imposed by the wireless company. The Canadian based wireless service provider uploads software that restricts the use of SIM cards from other companies before selling the phone. The unlock code lifts this restriction and permits the customer to use the phone with all SIM cards. Rogers Wireless may give you the unlock code for free if your account is in good standing.

Dial *#06# on your handset to display the IMEI number. This is the fifteen digit identification number for your particular handset. The Rogers Wireless representative will request this code to generate the unlock code.

Dial *611 from your mobile to contact the customer service department. Request the subsidy unlock code. It may help to explain to them that you need the option to use prepaid SIM cards from other countries.

Ask the customer service representative for specific instructions on how to enter the unlock code on your handset or consult an online guide (see Resources).

Follow the instructions to enter the subsidy unlock code on your handset. Each brand has different requirements and steps to enter the unlock code. Some require the use of a SIM card from a different network, while others require a special sequence of numbers or button combinations before entering the code. The phone unlocks automatically once the proper code is entered.

Tips

If Rogers Wireless refuses to give you the subsidy unlock code for some reason, you may purchase one from an online distributor (see Resources).
