Experts promoting glossy screens often claim better color intensity and contrast ratios than their matte counterparts. The problem is that glossy screens only work best under controlled lighting situations. Whenever screens are exposed to direct light, they produce an unwanted glare. This glare annoys the user and diminishes the vibrancy of what's being projected on the screen. Many newer glossy screens offer an optical coating that diminishes this glare, but even if your screen isn't already protected, you can reduce the glare on your glossy screen by using an anti-glare film.

Apply an anti-glare film over your screen. These films can be purchased from electronics stores and online. They come in a variety of sizes to fit all types of screens. To apply, remove the backing from the film, place it over your screen and smooth it out.

Turn your screen so it's facing away from any windows or direct sunlight.

Install blinds, shades or curtains to block the sunlight from shining onto the screen.

Dim the lights in the room.

Turn your screen away from the direct path of light coming from any bulbs, lamps or other sources of light to minimize the glare.
