Update.exe belongs to a downloader known as W97M.Exedrop. This executable functions with the sole purpose of downloading viruses and spyware onto your computer and infecting it as much as possible. These “parasite” viruses don’t take a lot of creativity to get rid of. W97M.Exedrop can be removed using your computer’s task manager and its search functions.
Press “Ctrl,” “Alt,” and “Delete” on your keyboard to open your task manager.
Click on the “Processes” tab and right-click every “update.exe” process you see and click “End Process.”
Go to your Start menu and click “Search.”
Click “Files and Folders” in the Window or on the “Search” menu, depending on your version of Windows. In Windows Vista, you find the search bar on the upper right corner of the search window.
Search for “update.exe” and delete each instance you find by selecting it and pressing the “Delete” key on your keyboard.
