Internet Explorer is a popular web browser created by Microsoft and included with all current Windows operating systems. Microsoft regularly provides both standard and critical updates for current versions of Internet Explorer. It is important to install these updates, as they are a means of dealing with known issues, installing patches for potential security threats and implementing other important corrections and improvements.

Check for Updates from Microsoft

Start Internet Explorer.

Go to the "Microsoft Internet Explorer" website (see Resources).

Look for an announcement that a new, updated version of Internet Explorer is available. Click the "Download Now" button to install it.

Check Windows Update from the Internet Explorer Window

Start Internet Explorer.

Go to the "Tools" menu. Select "Windows Update".

Click the link informing you of new updates.

Check for Internet Explorer updates. Select the check box for the updates and click "Download" if you want to install them.
