How to Retrieve Deleted Text Messages on a Cell Phone

Items you will need

  • SIM card USB adapter

  • Text message recovery software

There are many reasons why you might want to recover a deleted text message. You may have accidentally deleted important information or you might want to find out what your child, spouse or partner is hiding. Whatever your reason, deleted text messages can be recovered. However, because cell phones only store data on their SIM cards for a certain period of time before writing over the deleted information, you have a limited time before the text message is permanently deleted. The sooner you try to recover the deleted information, the better odds you have of recovering the deleted text messages.

Download and install a text message recovery software program. Click the links in the "References" section below to be directed to some sites with free trials.

Connect a SIM card USB adapter to one of your computer's USB ports.

Remove your phone's SIM card and insert it into the USB adapter.

Open your text message recovery software program. Choose PC or Mac device recovery.

Double-click the USB drive icon. Wait for the files to be recovered (this can take awhile), then sift through the information to find what you're looking for.
