How to Use Your Nintendo DS as a Wii Controller

The Nintendo Wii, released in 2006, has more in common with the Nintendo DS than just the company behind it. Starting with the game Pokemon Battle Revolution for the Wii and either Pokemon Diamond or Pearl for the DS, the two can interact with a shared connection in which the DS is used as a controller. As well, titles featured on both systems like Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: Echoes of Time can share progress between the two. The first step is to get the Wii to use the DS as a controller. This is an easy process since games that feature this option will feature the connection in their menus. The best display of this is to use the DS Battle Mode in Pokemon Battle Revolution as an example.
Turn on your Wii and Nintendo DS with the appropriate games inserted. Press any button to go to the Game Mode menu on the Wii.
Click on DS Battle Mode in the Wii menu. Select the game and and click on "Start Entry." Now on your Pokemon menu on the DS, it should have an option to "Connect to Wii." Click it.
Go back to your Wii menu and press "Start" when it prompts you. You now have the DS and Wii connected.
