How to Make a Grid in Illustratorby Craig WittUpdated September 28, 2017
Adobe Illustrator is a professional-grade graphic design application. It lets users create and edit vector-based artwork, a format that allows images to be increased or decreased in size with no effect on quality. Illustrator includes two easy-to-use grid tools.
Open Adobe Illustrator.
Click "File" in the top menu bar and select "Open." Locate your file and then double-click its icon to open it in Illustrator.
Select your preferred grid tool. Look to the toolbar on the left-hand side of the screen, and then click and hold on the Line Segment Tool icon; this icon is located on the left side of the toolbar, four spaces down from the top. Choose either the "Rectangular Grid Tool" or "Polar Grid Tool" option from the resulting submenu, depending on your design needs.
Click once on your art board to bring up the Grid Tool Options dialog box.
Enter your desired width and height, along with the parameters for the horizontal and vertical dividers of your grid.
Click "OK." Your grid appears on-screen instantly.
