How to Start a Two Player Game in Battle Toads

Battletoads is a classic 8-bit game for the original Nintendo Entertainment System. The game was released in 1991 and it was popular enough to give rise to sequels on later video game systems like the Super Nintendo and Sega Genesis. The original Battletoads is known for its difficulty, partially because it was actually harder to win with two players instead of one, when the opposite is usually true. The game's start menu does not indicate a two-player option, however, so to some it was a mystery about how to start a two-player session.
Insert the Battletoads game cartridge into your Nintendo Entertainment System. Be sure that two controllers are connected to the game system.
Turn on your Nintendo Entertainment System. The first screen you will see will say "Tradewest Presents." Press "Start" on the player one's controller several times to proceed through the introductory credit screens. Stop when you arrive at a screen displaying the message "Press start to play."
Press "Start" on player two's controller to start a two-player game. Watch the story-line introduction and see the two Battletoad characters drop from their spaceship. Once they land, two-player mayhem will begin.
