How to Backup Your iPhone Contacts

by eHow Contributor ; Updated September 28, 2017

It is always a good idea to backup iPhone contacts in case your iPhone is ever lost or stolen. iPhone file backup is a simple task that runs through iTunes. Although iTunes is mainly used for music, it also serves as an iPhone maintenance tool, and an application and update download center. Backup your iPhone phone contacts regularly to ensure you don't lose them.

Go to iTunes.com if you don't have iTunes on your computer already. Click the "Free Download" button on the main page to download and install the latest version of iTunes onto your computer.

Open iTunes once the download and installation are complete. Connect your iPhone to your computer with the USB cable.

Look for the iPhone option on the left-hand side of the open iTunes window. Right-click on that option and select "Backup."

Allow your iPhone files and contacts to get copied over to your iTunes program. This might take a couple of minutes depending on how much data you have on your iPhone. When the backup is finished, click on the "Ejection" option and close iTunes.

Unplug your iPhone from your computer.
