If you are having problems with your internet connection, it is important to check the proxy server settings. Checking these settings should be your first step in the troubleshooting process. If any of the settings are incorrect, your computer may not be able to reach the Internet. Even if it does connect, your web pages may not display properly.

Internet Explorer

Open up your web browser and click on the "Tools" menu. Choose "Internet Options" from the menu.

Click on the "Connections" tab and click the "LAN Settings" button.

Look for the check box that says "Proxy Server" and write down that information. This is the proxy server that your computer is using to access the Internet.

Open up Firefox and click on the "Tools" menu. Choose "Options" from the menu.

Click the "Advanced" button and click the "Settings" button under the "Connections" tab.

Check the proxy settings on the next screen and record the name of the proxy server that Firefox is using to access the Internet.
