How to Remove PC Cleaner Popups

by Tim Mammadov ; Updated September 28, 2017

PC Cleaner is a spyware that disguises itself as a legitimate anti-virus and infects computers through trojan viruses. This application will generate multiple pop-ups showing viruses and other threats found on your computer. Then it will offer you an opportunity to buy the PC Cleaner application to remove the found parasites. However, paying for this software will not do a thing for your computer, as the messages are fake, and PC Cleaner itself is the spyware. You will need to stop the spyware from running in the background, unregister its DLL and remove registry keys and files created by this program. The pop-ups will be gone once the spyware is erased.

Stop System Process

Press \"Ctrl,\" \"Shift\" and \"Esc\" keys at the same time to bring up the Windows Task Manager.

Click on the \"Processes\" tab to view a list of the current programs running in the background.

Find the following entry and click on it: \"PC-Cleaner.exe.\"

Click on the \"End Process\" button to stop PC Cleaner from running. Then close the Task Manager.

Unregister DLL File

Go to the \"Start\" menu and click on \"Run.\"

Type \"cmd\" in the search line and click on \"OK\" to start the command prompt dialogue window.

Type regsvr32/u pcsd.dll\" and press \"Enter\" to unregister the DLL. Close the command line window.

Remove Registry Entries

Go to the \"Start\" menu and click on \"Run.\"

Type \"regedit\" and click on \"OK\" to bring up the Windows Registry Editor.

Navigate to and delete the following registry entries:

HKEY_USERS\S-1-5-21-1172441840-534431857-1906119351-500\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run\"PC-Cleaner\" = \"\"C:\Program Files\PC-Cleaner\PC-Cleaner.exe\" hide\" HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Shell Extensions\Approved\"{82297D11-31C1-40B1-960A-BDF40B3B365F}\" = \"pcsd\" HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\PC-Cleaner HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\AllFilesystemObjects\shellex\ContextMenuHandlers\pcsd HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID{82297D11-31C1-40B1-960A-BDF40B3B365F} HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall\PC-Cleaner HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\PC-Cleaner HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\CLSID{82297D11-31C1-40B1-960A-BDF40B3B365F} HKEY_CURRENT_USERS\Software\PC-Cleaner

Close the Registry Editor.

Remove Files

Go to the \"Start\" menu, click on \"Search,\" check the \"All Files and Folders\" option and select the hard drive to be searched.

Type \"PC-Cleaner.exe\" and hit \"Enter\" to begin searching. Delete all of the found entries.

Repeat Step 2 for \"pcsd.dll,\" \"PC-Cleaner.db,\" \"pccleaner.pkg\" and \"program.info.\"

Restart your computer.

Tip

  • Remove only the registry entries shown. Modification or removal of any legitimate key or value can damage or disable your operating system.
