"New Super Mario Bros. Wii" updates the classic NES game for the Wii console. Mario, Luigi and friends battle against Bowser while trying to rescue Princess Peach through nine worlds and dozens of levels. You can continue your game in "New Super Mario Bros. Wii" if you run out of lives, but you'll lose any progress you've made on your current level. Avoid this by racking up 99 lives -- the maximum for your character -- in World 2-3.

Play through "New Super Mario Bros. Wii" and enter World 2-3.

Play through this level and stop at the staircase located just before the flagpole at the end of the level.

Watch the koopa troopa walking down the stairs. Wait until the koopa is on the third stair from the bottom.

Jump on the koopa when it is just about to walk off this step. Mario will continue to jump up and down on the turtle as you gain up to 99 lives.

Tips

If you don't time your jump right, walk on the left side of the screen until the staircase is out of sight. Return to the right to find a new koopa descending the stairs.

This cheat is actually a reference to a similar free lives secret in the original Mario game for NES.
