Items you will need

  • Xbox Live account

  • Xbox 360 console

If you own an Xbox 360 and like to play games online, you know that your Gamertag is the key to your identity. This Gamertag houses all your achievements, downloaded purchases and avatar information. Generally all your login information is stored on your Xbox 360 console, but if you have not used your Gamertag in awhile, or just need to remember your email address for personal reference, there is a simple way to recover it.

Turn on the Xbox 360 and make sure all accounts are signed out. If you have an auto sign-in function enabled, the easiest way to make sure everyone is logged out is to press the Xbox 360 guide button, followed by the X button.

Go to the My Xbox section of the console and scroll all the way to the right until you see the "account management" pane. Press the A button to enter this space.

Once you have entered Account Management, scroll down until you see gamer profiles. You will now see a list of profiles that are associated with the console, sorted by email address/Gamertag. You may now make a note of your Gamertag email.

If you have linked your Xbox Live account to a Windows Live email address, it is very important to login to your account every four months or it will be deleted and you won't have access your Gamertag. If you use another email service, this isn't an issue.
