The Basic Input/Output System, or BIOS, checks and initializes your computer's various components, such as hard drives and communication devices. The BIOS is the gateway to the operating system on the hard drive. It is rare that a user will have to enter the BIOS, but there are settings that may need to be changed when hardware is added or if you are troubleshooting an issue.
Turn on your HP Pavilion.
Press the proper function key when you see the HP Invent logo. There are many different versions of the HP Pavilion, and the function key that allows entry to the BIOS varies by version. Common Pavilion BIOS-access keys are "F1," "F8," or "F10." If you see the Windows logo, restart your computer and try again.
Press the "Tab" key to move through the menu in BIOS.
Tips
As your computer starts, the key to enter the setup typically is displayed when the manufacturer logo appears.
