How to Increase Memory on a PSP

PlayStation Portable (PSP) memory can be either 2 GB or 4 GB. These data storage devices or sold separately and are used to store game files, such as saved game progression and other gaming features. If you play a lot PSP games that require large amounts of space in order to save and play the game then you can quickly run out space on your memory stick. Maximizing your file space is simple, but minimizing can be much trickier. Before you purchase another memory stick for your PSP, consider trying various techniques to increase the memory.

Turn on your PSP and click on the "Memory" option. Go through all of the files and delete ones from games that you no longer play or need the files for. For example, if there is a game file saved for a PSP game that you rented or already completed, delete those saved to make more room for new data.

Reformat your entire memory. This is basically a way to clear all of your memory, but it will also get rid of unnecessary files. For example, you may not want to keep any of the files stored on your memory stick, but if you just delete them manually, there will still be hidden game files that you can't erase. Go to "System Settings" and press the "X" button for the Format Memory Stick option. Click on the "Yes" option and your memory will be reformatted with zero percent of space stored on it.

Purchase games online through the PlayStation store using your Wi-Fi connectivity on your PSP. These games are compressed and will take up less space than it takes to play a Universal Media Disc (UMD) on your PSP. If you still want to increase your memory, continue to Step 4.

Go to your local video game retailer and purchase a PSP Expand Memory Converter (see References). These converters cost about as much as the memory sticks but will increase your space and save you more money in the long run.
