Counter-Strike
Counter-Strike first came to life as a modification for Half-Life. Counter-Strike 1.0 was released commercially at the end of 2000. Since then, its community has grown to millions. However, it took years before a friends system was added to the game through the Steam service, which also supports other online games. There are two ways to add friends in Steam, one of which can be done only while in a specific game and the other regardless of what game you are playing.
Bring up your in-game "Steam Community Menu" by clicking the buttons (Shift + Tab by default) assigned to it. You must be in a game for this to work. It does not matter whether you are in the title screen or a server.
Change the menu's shortcut keys: Click "Settings" and find the "In-Game" tab. Click the spot under shortcut keys and press whatever button you want to change it to. In Counter-Strike, Shift is the button for walking and tab checks the scores. It becomes impossible to walk and check the scores or see who is alive because trying to do so will bring up the Steam Community menu.
Click on "Players." There are two tabs available in the window that opens, "Current Game" and "Previous Games." "Current Game" shows all of Steam users in your server. "Previous Games" has a list of players from previously used servers.
Highlight a player’s name by clicking on it. Click "Add to Friends List." This puts the person on your friends list, and they will appear offline.
Alternatively, instead of clicking "Players," click "Friends." You can access this menu whether you are in a game or not. Your friends list should come up. Click "Add Friends" at the bottom and put in the Steam account name or email address of the person you want to add. Click "Next," and if you entered it correctly the person will appear on your friends list as offline.
Your new prospective friend will appear offline until he accepts your friend invite. It helps if you are in contact with him so he can accept as soon as possible.
