WPA protection is a form of wireless security that some wireless internet connections use. If you try to connect to a WiFi network with WPA security using the normal options in your Nintendo DS, you'll find that the system will not recognize the connection or allow you to connect. You can access a WPA network using the "Advanced Setup" option in your DS. Note that to connect to a WPA network, you must have access to the WPA passkey or password.

Step 1

Press the power button in the lower left corner of the DS and touch the bottom screen with the stylus anywhere to start the system.

Step 2

Scroll over to "System Settings" using the directional pad and press "A."

Step 3

Scroll to the right twice by tapping the touch-screen arrows on the bottom screen. Tap "Internet."

Step 4

Tap "Advanced Setup" in the lower portion of the bottom screen then tap the "None" button next to "Connection 4."

Step 5

Tap the "Search for Access Point" button and allow the DS to search for your WPA network. All wireless access points in range of the DS will appear on a list.

Step 6

Scroll down by tapping the scroll bar with the stylus and tap your WPA-encrypted WiFi network to select it.

Step 7

Tap the empty field above the "Change Security Settings" button and a touch screen keyboard will appear.

Step 8

Input the WPA passkey by tapping the letters or numbers into the on-screen keyboard. Tap "OK" at the bottom of the screen.

Step 9

Tap "OK" to save the settings on your DS, then "OK" a second time to test the connection. "Connection was successful" will appear on the screen. If this does not appear, double-check that you have entered the correct WPA passkey.
