Your iPad shares one feature with all other wireless appliances -- the ability to connect to the Internet using Wi-Fi. Compared to 3G, Wi-Fi allows you to connect quicker and more reliably to your favorite websites, email and YouTube videos. However, there are times when you need to turn off Wi-Fi. You may need to conserve your iPad's battery juice for non-Web-related tasks or comply with an airline's request to disable Wi-Fi for the safety of your flight. Whether your iPad has Wi-Fi only, or Wi-Fi plus 3G, turning off the Wi-Fi feature is as straightforward as it gets.

Tap "Settings" on your home screen. You'll see a navigation sidebar on the left and a main settings pane on the right.

2

Tap "Wi-Fi" on the sidebar.

3

Tap the "Wi-Fi" switch on the right pane to toggle it "Off." Your iPad's Wi-Fi feature is now deactivated.

4

Confirm Wi-Fi has been turned off. Observe your taskbar at the very top of your screen. Your Wi-Fi icon beside "ATT" or "Verizon" should be replaced by "3G" or "E."
