Using your computer in conjunction with a digital scale to weigh items can provide advantages that would not be possible when using a scale alone. These include database programs remembering the weights and measurements of the weighed objects, along with the possibility of instantly scanning the nutritional content of a variety of foods. All this and more is possible with the use of a USB digital scale.

Step 1

Turn off the computer.

Step 2

Plug the USB cable into the "Data" port on the scale.

Step 3

Connect the other end to an available USB port on the computer.

Step 4

Start the computer and insert the software CD that came with your particular digital scale.

Step 5

Press the "Install" option and follow the onscreen instructions to install the appropriate software, preparing the computer to function alongside the digital scale.

Step 6

Restart your computer when the installation is complete.

Step 7

Open your "Start" menu, click on "Programs," and open the program for your digital scale.

Step 8

Press the "Power" button on your scale and wait until it boots up, displaying a "nil" (0.0) reading.

Step 9

Place the object to be weighed on the scale and read the display from the onscreen scale software or from the digital readout on the side of your scale.
