How to Upload Photos From the Sony Cyber-shot to a Computer

by C. Taylor

Nearly all Sony Cyber-shot digital cameras support two methods of transferring photos to your computer. A direct connection via the Sony USB cable connects the camera to any Windows 7 computer, which typically has at least one USB port. If your computer has a card reader, you also have the option to insert the Secure Digital or MemoryStick card into the card reader and access photos similarly to using the USB method.

USB Connection

1

Connect the smaller end of the USB cable to the Cyber-shot's USB port, which is typically on the underside of the camera or in the battery compartment.

2

Connect the other end of the cable to your computer's USB port.

3

Click "Open Folder to View Files" from the AutoPlay window.

4

Locate the photos your wish to upload to your computer. The photos will be in a DCIM folder, but the exact name of the subfolder may differ on your model.

5

Drag and drop photos to another location on your computer's hard drive. Alternatively, select files, press "Ctrl-C" to copy them, navigate to the upload location and press "Ctrl-V" to paste them.

6

Click the USB icon in the Windows 7 notification area and choose to eject the Cyber-shot camera. If the USB icon is not visible, click the arrow next to the notification area to view hidden icons.

Memory Card

1

Slide open the Cyber-shot's battery compartment and press the memory card to eject it.

2

Insert the memory card into your computer's card reader.

3

Click "Import Pictures and Videos" in the AutoPlay window.

4

Enter a descriptive tag and click "Import" to automatically upload photos to your Windows Pictures library.

5

Click the USB icon in the Windows 7 notification area and choose to eject the memory card.
